Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of Church Society will be held at the King’s Park Conference Centre, Northampton on Wednesday 31st August 2022, commencing at 4.30pm.

At this meeting, we elect our honorary officers and Council, hear reports from the Chairman of Council, and Chairman of Finance, and have a chance to discuss issues of importance to us as a Society. If you are a member of Church Society, please come along to exercise your vote and make a contribution.

We are very keen that our Council should be a good representation of our diverse membership – lay people, as well as clergy, women and men, from different areas of the country, and with different class, educational and ethnic backgrounds. The Council has to consider matters including finance, law, safeguarding, communications, HR and many more, so we need a wide range of experience and expertise. If you would like more information about what being on Council entails, please do contact the office and we will gladly put you in touch with one of our current Council members. Any member of Church Society can stand for election – please don’t wait to be asked!

Among the items on this year’s agenda is discussion of an updated Declaration of Faith. Concerns were raised at previous AGMs about the statement, and a group of the Church Society Council undertook to propose an alternative. Because of Covid, the past two AGMs have been deliberately limited to items that did not require much discussion. This year we hope to discuss and consider adopting the new statement, which you can download to consider in advance. The Declaration of Faith must be signed by all Council members and Church Society staff. Church Society members are not required to give their agreement to it.

This year, the AGM will be held during the annual Junior Anglican Evangelical Conference (JAEC). Attendees of the AGM are welcome to join us for tea prior to the meeting, and to stay for the panel discussion afterwards. Please note that if you plan to stay for ANY other part of the conference, including lunch or dinner on August 31st you MUST book with the office at least a week prior to the AGM.

We hope to be able to livestream the AGM this year for those who are unable to attend in person and will send details of how to access that in advance of the meeting. Please note there is no special legal exemption to allow for online voting at the meeting. If you would like to submit a question to the meeting in advance, please email it to the office by Friday August 26th. It will then be responded to at the meeting.
