JAEC 2023: The Church For England

2023 has already been a turbulent year for the Church of England, and there are many issues that are particularly pressing for those considering ordination, in training, and in the early stages of ordained ministry.

That's why, at this summer’s Junior Anglican Evangelical Conference we will pause to take stock of what the Church of England should be and what she now is. In doing so, there will be opportunity to consider what it means to serve in the Church of England, and how we can continue to contend for the church to be reformed and renewed in biblical faith. We'll also consider how best to engage in the church’s ongoing ministry to those in our congregations and those far beyond our doors.

Three of our main speakers: James Cary, Charlie Skrine and Ros Clarke, are members of General Synod. James is also a lay member of the Archbishops' Council. Lee Gatiss and George Crowder, as members of Church Society staff, are well-placed to comment on the situation on the ground in the Church of England around the country. Rob Munro, the new Bishop of Ebbsfleet, will give our conference sermon, bringing an episcopal perspective to our conference.

In the seminars we will be considering the practical implications of the issues facing the church today:

• Changing the Church How can we get involved in the synods and structures of the church to bring about meaningful change?
• Flourishing Together How can we work together as men and women, as complementarians and egalitarians, to ensure better gospel flourishing for all?
• A Church for All Classes How can we ensure that our churches minister well to everyone in the community, crossing the class divides of our society?
• Keeping Going How do you keep persevering in gospel work against opposition from inside the church as well as out?
• Getting Selected How and why should you get selected for ordained ministry in the Church of England?

JAEC is a member of the CEEC and all our speakers are asked to indicate their commitment to the CEEC basis of faith and additional declarations. Although JAEC is hosted by Church Society, it seeks to serve all Anglican evangelicals considering or in the early stages of ministry in the Church of England. It is open to lay workers as well as curates and early incumbents. We welcome charismatics and conservatives, egalitarians and complementarians. The 2023 Junior Anglican Conference will be held at King's Park Conference Centre, Northampton, from 29th to 31st August.
