Lee Gatiss examines the nature of Christian freedom in Luther’s work both before and after the publication of his 95 Theses. Central to Luther’s theology is justification by faith alone, which frees Christians from their bondage to sin and from the burden of seeking to please God. And yet reformation Christians like us are so often known for traditionalism and the insistence on rules. What then can Luther teach 21st century Christians about Christ, whose service is perfect freedom?
